I'M A LOCAL MAN: A POEM BY EMMALIZER

I'M A LOCAL MAN....

A POEM BY EMMALIZER

I'm a local man that wakes up after a cock crows at what time predefined by the cock,

The hustle of day starts with the call of something like, "Mama ........"

Followed by greetings with my neighbors,

Either with a kind heart or not,

I respond as I'm able to see the two eyes,

I'm a local man who hangs the chewing stick on his jaw,

Like it produces some sort of sweetness my mouth can't let go,

The expression on my face tells a different story,

It's the morning ritual we call it.

I'm a local man who believes owning a farmland and a house declares myself; "World's Richest",

After all, the cheap labour amassed from my wives and young children is enough,

What awaits in all, the harvest is very essential,

I'm a local man whose genre of music is accompanied by the Ogene,

My waist can twist and find rest to every beat,

In any ceremony, the remembrance of our ancestors is a duty,

The kola and the drink, "Schnapps" trace their routes to the ground,

I'm a local man who never forbids the mixture of Pidgin, mother's tongue and English Language when speaking,

No one settles the quarrel best other than my biased, acclaimed true friend,

Who knows some truths are core lies,

I'm a local man who wants the best for his children,

A traditional African man with hopes of having highly respected personalities in the society,

The prayers offered from generations keeps flowing like water does from it's source,

I'm a local man who sees while sitting,

The older the wine, the better it's taste,

I won't sleep without blessings emanating from me to my offspring,

It's a necessity to provide a cover whether it is raining or not, cold or not, day or night.
