ARROGANCE OF DESTINY
EPISODE 5
NEAR OBA MARKET, BINI KINGDOM
C. 1512
When they heard the footsteps of something big and fast coming, the children under the cherry tree ran.
Idubor, popularly known as Arhuan (the Giant), always went to the cherry tree a little before dawn, to pick fallen cherries or kill animals that want some too.
He scratched the itch he had on his upper back and when he raised his head, he jumped as he saw some girl still using a stick to check under leaves.
“Hey!” he watched the girl with suspicion. She must be a spirit.
“Shh… there are spirits around. Don’t worry when I get only one, just one cherry, we will go.” Though the person standing before her was as big as God, she seemed not to care.
“What if I am the evil spirit?”
“Well you are not, you are Arhuan the Prince. And besides I haven’t done anything evil to warrant the wrath of an evil spirit.” She was stubborn.
“You know it is not safe to be alone this dark---are you even listening?... Stupid peasant.” The girl heard him and threw her stick down, stormed to where Idubor was and stood akimbo, shaking with rage.
“Say that again, if I don’t beat you up right now.” she looked serious, though the person she was going to beat was like five hundred of her.
“Oh you think you are big and a prince, I can’t beat you. Listen go and add fifty of the palace guards to you, I will still beat you all. The big ones are the easiest to fall; never able to get up again.” She said a lot; a point of the sun rose without them noticing.
The sunrays filtered through different canopies to brighten her figure; dipping orange stars in honey. She talked and talked, Idubor did not hear one of it. He was surprise how much beautiful one person can possess.
She shook her round breast and rolled her eyes as she rant, it was magical. She will use her index finger to warn Idubor: once every ten seconds.
How her cheeks formed dimples when she pressed her lip together. How her eyes under her lashes are like glassed rainbows.
“How dare you talk to me like that? If not that I like your little eyes--” Idubor didn’t know where that came out from inside him.
“What?... Really?... Alright, don’t ever call me stupid again and we can be friends.” she started playing with her finger, with a hint of smile on her eyes. Look at new light, like they shine for her.
“Yea… I don’t want you to beat me mercilessly…”He smirked.
“You better be careful with that tone, young man. You want me to kill you that bad?” Idubor wanted to hold her close, like she was home.
Idubor jumped and clung to the cherry tree, and climb so fast and easy; he went to shake a branch with ripe fruits. And she was all smiles.
From that day forward, Idubor could see water glowing blue and bird twittering as music.
